How to clean electric glasstop stove? Other tips?

Anonymous
We just moved and I'm having trouble adjusting to
this new stove. Any suggestions would help. Is the
pan supposed to cover the coils, or leave some
exposed.

Can I use baking soda to clean?

any tips would be greatly appreciated!

There are special cleaners you can buy at the grocery store but I always use bar keepers friend on ours.

I use Bar keeper's friend, too, or Comet when I run out.

The pan should not overhang the coils, otherwise it won't heat as fast or evenly. It's okay to leave some exposed.

Another tip: if you're trying to reduce something to a simmer quickly, move the entire pan off the burner for a short while to help it cool off. The glass top retains a lot of heat so finding the exact temp setting for a simmer can be a little difficult. You can also just move the pan to an entirely different burner that you've preset at a "simmer" temp.
