Weekend getaway at 34 weeks? Too close?

My husband, 2 year old daughter and I were hoping to do a spontaneous trip to Ocean City (just three hours away) during my 34th week. Is this too close to my due date? What are others opinions?

do it! I remember questioning this with my first child and we decided not to go away. he ended up being 2 weeks late and man did I wish we had gotten away.

Was your first on time?

Personally, if I were having a complication-free pregnancy (good blood pressure, no diabetes, baby healthy, etc.) I'd do it. The chance of the baby more or less falling out within an hour of feeling contractions is pretty small. But if you're worried, just check it with your doc for reassurance. Also, it's 3 hours away and not in some remote place so you'll still be near civilization.

My first was 4 days late. I've had a complication-free pregnancy (minor aches and pains) but because of some other issues I will likely have a planned cesarean at 38 or 39 weeks.

My dr had no problem with travel of that sort up until my due date even. As long as there is a hospital somewhere, it doesn't have to be your hospital. And I was a VBAC candidate.

I'd totally do it in the circumstances you describe. We'll most likely take a similar trip when I'm around 33 weeks with our toddler, assuming everything's going well in the pregnancy.

I think we might take a 2 hour away trip at 34 weeks, am going to ask my OB about it next week.

My Dr. gave me a list of things that were OK and things that were no-no's (so to speak). Travel until 36 weeks is OK. Go for it and have fun!

PS That is assuming there are no complications....

As long as you're feeling fine, go for it. Just make sure you know where the closest ER is, in case of emergency, and have copies of your records with you.

If you've got no reason to believe you're at risk for pre-term delivery, travel at 34 weeks shouldn't be any problem at all.

My OB said to restrict travel starting at 36 weeks. Obviously you COULD go into labor at 34 weeks, but it's not terribly likely. I'd probably plan on it, tentatively speaking, and then if all seemed well, bon voyage! As others have noted, it's not like there are no hospitals in OC if the worst should happen, though it's not ideal, you can't worry away all of your chances for fun in life.

BTW, prepare to get a lot of OMG why would you even consider this? type of responses. Like a PP, I also posted something similar and 90 percent of the replies were like "that's so irresponsible" and I didn't do it. DS born a week "late" and I wish I'd have gotten away while we had the chance.

I had the opportunity to go to Germany at 33 weeks, you better believe I went! Have fun OP! Delivered at 39 weeks. No prob.

When did you have your first? My first came in the middle of my 36th week, so this time I'm nervous about anything past 34 weeks. But that's not a general rule, that's simply based on knowing my body isn't adverse to early labor.

OP: my daughter came four days past her due date. 40 weeks, 4 days....I've heard every pregnancy can be different, though.
