Do dark rugs show dirt?

Do dark rugs show more dirt/dust like dark cars and dark hardwood floors? We've lived in our place for 10 years with just bare hardwood, but now that we have an imminent crawler, we're trying to get a rug. It has to cover at least a 9x12 area. We finally found a rug but it's dark brown (with gold, green and red medallion/designs). The hardwoods are a medium golden oak color, so the dark would look ok but we're not sure if it would show a lot of dirt/dust. Of course, now doesn't seem the best time to buy a new rug with all the spills and messes that go along with having an infant/toddler. so we thought about getting a remnant bound, but not even sure how to go about that. Any thoughts? Thanks.
