Guiliani, Huckabee raise Obama's drug use as an issue

Anonymous
These two are on the air today raising the issue of Obama's (minimal and youthful) drug use. The McCain campaign must have given them the green light, since they're doing it practically simultaneously. Yuck.

Oh come ON...time after time, I hear late night comedians and other websites (Even the times) Bringing up Cindy's drug issues.

Why does everyone feel Obama should be handled with KidGloves and everyone else is fair game?

OP here. I actually agree with you: I don't think Cindy's issue should be brought up either. And I don't think Obama should be handled with kid gloves. To bring this up now, though, seems a bit desperate. Obama has written about it and talked about it. I don't understand what further efforts Guiliani and Huckabee think should be made. Reporters have already interviewed figures from that period of Obama's life, and if anything he seems to have overstated his drug use. So I don't think they're raising it as a legitimate area of inquiry. If they were, wouldn't they have done it earlier?

Obama didn't steal drugs from her own charity, as Cindy did.

He doesn't "pile on make-up with a trowel" either.

At this point, every last-ditch smear effort just makes them look more and more desperate.

They need to stick to one smear method.

They barely gave "socialist" a chance to kick in. Gee, I really thought that one had legs.

And whatever happened to "community organizer"? That had a nice ring to it.

Of course the Muslim thing sounded really scary, but before I could get worked up too much I was distracted by the controversy over his membership in a Christian church. I couldn't figure out how to be outraged both ways at once.

Then there was terrorist. Was he on the watch list? I hope somebody told DHS. I heard that the Secret Service has been keeping veeery close tabs on him lately. Suspicious? You betcha!

Oh, and "elite". I think people forgot onaccountahow they really needed that one to bash the media.

Oh, yeah. This is what Giuliani said about Obama's drug use in 2007:

Giuliani on Obama: “I respect his honesty in doing that,” Giuliani said of Obama speaking about his drug use. “I think that one of the things we need from our people who are running for office is not this pretense of perfection. And the reality is all of us that run for public office, whether its governor, legislator, mayor, president, we are all human beings. If we haven’t made mistakes don’t vote for us. Cause we got some big ones that are gonna happen in the future and we won’t know how to handle them.”

Or snorted cocaine either I presume

I have heard Obama's past drug use juxaposed against Cindy's past drug use as reported front page in the NY Times Sunday. As is, why is the wife of one candidate on the front page for a past drug problem, and the other candidate isn't?

As to the pp who says Cindy stole drugs from her charity, did Obama buy cocaine legally at the corner drug store? Both broke the law to obtain the drugs. That's the whole point - it happened in the past, it has been admitted by both, why should either side bring it up now? But since the Dem-supporting NYT did, tit for tat.

Your president did smoke pot and do some coke, too. Thanks for the entree, Dubya.

Well, the employee who blew the whistle on Cindy McCain got fired. Looks like they fired the wrong person.

You would have a point, except that the NYT highlighted Obama's drug use in a front page story last February. Otherwise, nothing wrong with your question:

Cindy didn't admit it so much as get busted. As an adult, stealing drugs from her charity. Addicted. Through the age of 40. She was investigated by the DEA. (How do you attract the attention of the frickin' DEA?) Since the DEA was going to go public, she had to cough up the goods.

Barack Obama, unprompted in his own book, disclosed that he experimented with drugs during high school. That made Page One of the Obama-endorsing Washington Post. Way back in early 2007. So maybe it is that you just forgot that he already got his news coverage.

Excellent! I think this might have the makings of a good song -- something like the 12 days of Christmas. Call the Capitol Steps!
