A friend of mine's dog is barking a lot when she is not at home. The dog is a rescue and very sweet. He is not barking out of anxiety but as a result of stimulus - when someone passes by or a dog is outside. I was thinking a citronella collar might be effective for her (she asked me for advice - I volunteer in dog rescue), but I wasn't sure which one to recommend. Does anyone have a suggestion?
She works outside the home and a neighbor has complained, so she needs to work on this ASAP. Thank you! |
My dog figured out if she kept barking, the collar would run out of citronella. Don't waste your money. |
OP here. OK if not citronella then what? The friend lives in a condo and has gotten a letter that she has to deal with this issue. She has had the dog with zero problems with any of her neighbors for 8 years. A new neighbor moved in, and this is the person complaining. So she has to deal with the situation. Thanks. |
Doggie day care? A Thundershirt? Blocking the windows so it can't see outside, and leaving the TV on to remove the stimulus? |
Close draperies, classical music. |
Agree with the music or white noise. Some people recommend a pheromone collar that you can buy at Petsmart. The individual who recommended it used a cheapie one from Sentry and was very happy with the results. Good luck to your friend! |
