| I was the OP from the "long hair or short" thread awhile back. I went to get my hair cut and colored today with the idea that I would leave it long if she could do something to make it more shaped and interesting than it was. She spoke of long layers and face framing and I said that sounded fine. It seems that I am now wearing the Rachel haircut (from Friends a while back for all of you younger than my 41 years). I don't think that haircut fits in very well in 2013. Am I wrong ... please tell me I am! Oh well, hair grows. |
| High maintenance. |
| Better and better -- I need a no-maintenance cut. I truly just wash and go. This is going to look like hell tomorrow after I wash my hair, isn't it? |
| Personally, I think The Rachel is a very classic look. That said, it's usually not wash and go -- for most, I think it requires blowdrying with a big round brush. |
+1 |
| Thank you to the two PP. At least I know the look is not dated. Now I will have to see how I can manage it! |
| I love that haircut and wish my hair would look good with it! |

I rocked that haircut in the 90s.
I was a dead ringer for Aniston in her Rachel years .
We've since diverged. I've gone back to my darker hair and no layers in the back. I still think that haircut was the most flattering on me and fantasize about going back to it. |
If you're unhappy with your hair, you can always drop by the thrift shop and pick up an assortment of Blossom-style hats to cover it up

I dream of the Rachel being back in style...I swear I looked my best with that cut! Are we saying it is okay?!?!
|

Definitely in style, especially if it flatters your face.
As long as you have a great hairdryer, brush, and product to cut styling time, I don't think maintenance will be too bad. Ten minutes depending on your type of hair? |

Most haircuts can be updated to the times. Isn't everything old new again?
For example, the bob. It just gets tweaked by angles, etc. Wispy bangs are old, full ones in. If you have a good stylist and love the Rachel look, he/she should be able to update it for you but still keep the features that make it suit you. |
Im sorry im the only one who disagrees - the rachel unfortunately is very dated. However, you can stule it differently. I would not style it the way she did in friends - i wuld use that haircut and maybe part it differently using some products. As i said on your other thread, i follow hair trends carefully and sadly this haircut is not making a comback . I dont mean to make you feel upset but want to envourage you style it differently. Sorry OP. good news is that it will grow out and this haircut actually looks good as it grows out! Good luck!

| Serious question - I can't stand to walk around with hair just hanging in my face. How do you manage with a haircut like this? How do you look down to write something? |
|
OP here -- to 10:17, I totally agree. I hate having hair in my face. I've already been tucking it behind my ears most of the time. I think that makes it look better, too.
To 10:05, no offense taken here. Do you have any photos of the updated styling you can point me to? To all PPs, thank you for your reassurance! And to those who want the Rachel, I say go for it, I'd love the company .
