We haven't officially been told "no days" at NIH. We've been told they do not believe there will be any furlough days but that may be subject to change. Nothing has been received in writing.

I am not a fed but I work at a nonprofit that receives federal grant money. I have been told that some agencies that provide grants are taking the cuts by reducing grants meaning my organization is taking the brunt of it because no one at the agency is getting even one furlough day. We don't yet know how this will impact us since we haven't been told the exact amount of the cut to our grant, but we expect it to be more than 5% since the agency isn't taking a cut on its salaries, that money has to come from somewhere. We just got a vague sequestration notice filled with doom and gloom.

I am a fed who gives out grants and yes this is true. We don't yet know what the cuts to our grantees will be. It sucks.

A poster on another thread repeating a rumor, can hardly be called "definitive" information--particularly when they're clearly posting the information to make a political point.

Have heard this is true at HHS. The situation at our agency is the exact opposite. Employees have been told to expect furloughs but so far, our grantees have been excepted from the sequester cuts.

HUD is the only agency that has formulated a sensible plan. TOTALLY shut down for 7 days, everyone included.

I agree. I wish all the agencies would do this.

Ok, but it's a Federal Agency that runs DC's probation, parole and pretrial services. Comfortable with those guys taking a week off? Me, not so much...

I have heard of at least one NIH scientist who has received a furlough letter.

HUD isn't closing for 7 consecutive days. They're spreading them around.
