Does anybody have any insights on this area of Silver Spring? Schools? Safety? Family-Friendly? Thanks for the help!

This is my neighborhood. I have lived here for 15 years. It is a great neighborhood. I call it Northwood, I have no idea where the different subdivisions change. Northwood is very family friendly. Together with Forest Knolls, we consider it one neighborhood. There is a civic association, Northwood Four Corners Civic Association. There is a neighborhood pool that many families join (Forest Knolls Pool). There is one elementary school. It is is a good school, very diverse. It gets local (MD state) funds for making class sizes smaller. I think it is called a Focus funds. My kid is in kindergarten. There are 16 students in his class. Forest Knolls E.S.

I think the neighborhood dates back to the late 1930's (oldest) to the 1960's. There are a few original old homes in the middle here and there and there is some infill from the 1980's also. There is also some townhomes that were built in the 1980's or so that are part of our neighborhood, so I guess there are all sorts of housing types.

There are many first generation Americans who are part of the neighborhood. I would say that 40% of my child's class comes from a family where English is not the language spoken at home. On my own street it is particularly diverse, but not all streets are as diverse as mine. We have Ethiopian, Russian, Bolivian, Panamanian, and Cameroon neighbors. There are a fair number of Orthodox Jews in the neighborhood since there are a couple of orthodox synagogues that are walkable from the neighborhood.
