My DD is a little over 3 and loves, loves, loves to dance. She has asked to go to dance classes. The problem is that she is extremely uncoordinated and very clumsy. This is confirmed by her preschool teachers, a developmental clinic, and her pediatrician. I'm looking for suggestions in the Falls Church/Arlington/Fairfax area for dance classes that are gentle introductions to formal dance and won't put too much pressure on her to "perform" but would really emphasize the fun aspects of dance.
I've done some research but frankly, some of the local dance schools seem much more hardcore than would be suitable, and I'm not sure how to weed out some of the rest. Hope some of you might have some suggestions! TIA |
Arlington recreation offers a creative dance class that is very low key for 3-5 year olds. My DD - shy and not very coordinated - took it during winter session and loved it.
Balance ballet on Little River is very low key. They also have some great summer camps.
Creative Movement classes at Local Motion Studio in Alexandria would be great! http://www.localmotionstudio.com/
Ballet nova has a creative movement class.
Cup petit in Vienna has a combination ballet and tap class.
I'm not sure if Joy of Dance has Virginia locations but they are great. Not at all competitive and very age appropriate. They focus on fun and exploring movement.
OP here - thank you for all the great suggestions!!
