DCPS Waitlists - what's up?

Anonymous
The charter anxiety just made me go back and look hopefully at my DCPS numbers, and I noticed that although my number is the same on all the waitlists, it looks like the numbers of total applicants decreased significantly?? For instance, Powell dual language shows a total waitlist of 24 people - is it really possible only 24 more people than slots applied this year for PK4??

Or Marie Reed, a total of 40 on the waitlist?

Am I seeing things, or how can this be, are these really the numbers, because I thought I remembered much bigger numbers to begin with? With Marie Reed I think remember people initially posting numbers bigger than 40, what's up?

Maybe you're thinking of PS3? Those numbers are much bigger.

But yet - you're reading it right.

Thanks for the reply, but I'm definitely talking about PK4. I didn't even look at PS3, since that's not what we're looking for.

I was going to say maybe it was people removing themselves from waitlists, but it wouldn't make sense that on all of them I still have the same number - someone somewhere would have removed from above me, since some are triple digit numbers.

That is so weird... but I'm still focusing my anxiety on charter results, so I'll focus more anxiety on DCPS tomorrow maybe and call. There's plenty anxiety to go around!

No, those are the same exact numbers that were issued on the first day of the lottery. I think you are just reacting with shock to how easily surmountable those waitlist numbers now look compared to the charters. It is INSANE to have charters that have waitlists in the 700s for a single grade. The charter board has to do something to coordinate the charter lotteries to take preference into account.

Perhaps people have been enrolling at other DCPS and DCPS has been updating the results? just a guess.

NO...I'm telling you, the numbers are the exact same as the day the lottery results were announced.

Ok, I believe you. It must just be the shock! I will call my #1 choice DCPS tomorrow to check on waitlist progress (if any). I'm sure the few people that were admitted to popular schools are maybe, hopefully, already removing themselves. It's the only proper, considerate thing to do if you're sure you're in where you want to be.

And if you got a spot, you should be thinking about karma, cuz you got a boatload of good karma in your admitted spot!

Seems like you are not going to hear much until mid may, when the may 1 enrollment deadline has passed and the charter enrollment has passed.

That makes sense. I wasn't looking to hear anything, so much as just revisiting the numbers and noting what looked like an overall decrease in the waitling lists. Wishful thinking, apparently!

How do you even look up this info OP? I'd be curious to know too.
