My son was accepted into UVa for Fall 2013, and I'm curious what kind of financial aid/ merit scholarships (if any) U Va is known for giving out. Anyone have past experience or heard friends talking about their offers?
Need based: HHI with custodial parent is $45,000. Including non-custodial it's $153,000. Two younger half-siblings living with non-custodial as well, if that matters. Merit: GPA of ~4.5 and has 32 hours of college hours through p/t college in HS, and AP tests. When do the financial offer letters come out? |
I have a kid accepted for Fall 2013 too, and my understanding is that merit aid is limited to Echols/Jefferson/College Science Scholars and some departmental scholarships. UVA accepts such a generally high caliber of student that the scholarship money goes to the top-of-the-top students in named scholarship programs - and those students have already been notified. Last year, financial aid notifications were made around March 29 - so they should be coming out soon via posting to your son's SIS account at UVA. Hope this helps. |
There is very little merit aid from UVA. If you are a full need student, then UVA guarantees to meet your need.
The Jefferson Scholars is highly competitive and you have to be nominated by your school. All the finalists are invited to UVA for the final competition. It has happened or will be happening very soon for the 2013-2014 school year. Did you fill out your FAFSA? We already received UVA's financial aid letter for the upcoming school year so check your account. Our child was accepted for the class of 2017 and probably will not attend as he has 4 full-tuition scholarship offers at other schools. |
