Has anyone done an FET? I just started BCP and am targeting doing a transfer in early December.
How many embies did you defrost from the freezer and were the 2pn or blasts? Thanks in advance! |
| After thawing 6 embies, transferred the only 2 that "made it". They were both 2pns and are now 6 years old. Though I am sure protocols have changed in the last 6-7 years, I remember well the pills and shots and nerves. Best wishes. |
| Thanks so much for your post! Wonderful that you had twins from your FET! We have 4 frozen at 2pn and we are leaning towards unfreezing them all. did you do a 3 or 5 day transfer? Many thanks! |
| I had 7 frozen blasts left over from my successful IVF in the Fall of 2006. I recently 2 FET's done. The 1st one I had two 6 day blasts transferred. BFN. The 2nd I had five 7 day blasts ttansferred. BFN. I'm doing another fresh cycle in January. |

16:04 here. Here's my best advice based on my experience 7 years ago. We had 4 blasts leftover from fresh IVFs at a marginal clinic, i.e., not a clinic with fantastic success rates according to the CDC stats. We transferred those frozen embies to one of the best clinics in the country where we had two frozen 2pns leftover from a failed fresh cycle with them. Having learned much from the failed fresh cycle, that clinic persuaded us to try one last time with a FET. We agreed because the FET protocol was not merely a repeat of the fresh cycles we had done at their clinic and the old one but included some twists tailored to what the new clinic's team had learned from the failed fresh cycle we had just completed with them. Their amazing lab (at that time considered the best in the country) thawed all the embies and immediately thought that the blasts we sent up from the old lab were never going to progress and focused on helping along the 2 2pns that that lab had created in the fresh cycle. Those two, though graded lower than the original embies that had been transferred in the fresh cycle, were transferred using the new protocol and voila! my b/g twins are now 6 . So my best advice before deciding to thaw 2 or all 4 is to look at the success rates of the lab, find out if the embies are all graded the same and figure out the level of confidence you have in the protocol that you are using (does it really address all of the IF issues you and your DH may have and do you in your hear feel as though you are doing EVERYTHING you can).
Also, FWIW, our twins are the result of 4 years of treatment amounting to approximately $200K. Worth every penny and all the tears and then some. Best wishes. I'll be thinking of you. Keep us updated. |

Hi - I have not done a FET but went for a consultation with our RE to discuss a near future FET. We have one 6 day blast, and then two embies that caught up later and were frozen. I think he said he embie has a separate tube so can be de-frosted separately.
He said that the blast (it was AA) counts as one good embie, and the two otehr ones, he would count together as one given their statistical chances. We were successful during IVF with single embryo transfer (had a AA+ blast) so he recommended transferring the one blast. ANd if that does not work, transferring the two together. Of course, this would all depend on if they made it thru the dethaw. But this was Shady Grove which has a great lab. He also discussed the de-frosting process, I think he said they have to do it togetehr for all the embies you want since it takes some time and once they are ready, they need to go. The consultation was well worth it and I recommend you schedule one foryourself. The RE will look into your file and will give you answers based on your exact situation (quality of embies, your history, etc) Good luck! |

I've done 6 FET's. Had two children, had two negative betas, had one miscarriage, and currently am pregnant.
In every case, we "defrosted" two embryos, and in every case both embryos thawed very well. |
| We did a FET summer 2007 after our first failed fresh cycle. We thawed 2 day 5 blasts. Both survived and we were lucky enough to go on to have b/g twins. Best of luck! |
