| My gas grill is old and rusted. I am thinking of just buying a charcoal grill instead. Does anyone use exclusively charcoal grills? Is it really a lot less convenient than gas? Pros and Cons? Thanks. |
| I strongly prefer gas. No need to think about it before. Cleaner. Easier to control. |
| You get a much better taste with charcoal. |
|
Charcoal for an authentic grilled taste, but you need to know what you are doing. Gas for ease of use and easier cleanup.
I prefer charcoal for my part. |
| I would never use gas. What is the point? |
| I prefer charcoal. It doesn't take that long if you use a chimney - maybe 10-15 mins? Totally worth it for the taste IMHO. We have this one http://amzn.to/Y8HNAL which has a propane starter to get the coals going. We don't really use that feature but it might be a nice compromise for you? |
| Charcoal. Have ribs on my big green egg right now. |
| We are charcoal people. I don't understand the point of a gas grill - might as well cook it on the stove top. |
Agreed. Exclusively charcoal here. A charcoal grill is also a lot less expensive! |
| Another vote for exclusively charcoal grilling. We use a chimney starter and have a fireproof mat under the grill. Only thing a gas grill is good for is when the power goes out. |

Charcoal rocks, however we grill year-round and gas is much easier to deal with in the middle of winter.
Also, tend to get more carcinogens from charcoal. |
| I use both but prefer charcoal hands down. Gas is easier during the week with quick meals. |
