| My daughter who is 6 1/2 certainly has body odor. We've corrected this with daily showers and deodorant, but is this something I should be worried about? She's only 6. Can I slow down puberty? |
| You should take her to her dr. for blood tests. It is unusual and can have some less than desirable causes. |
That is not puberty causing it. |
| A six year old shouldn't have body odor or need deodorant. Please call your pediatrician. |

My 3 yo has really bad armpit odor. which started when she was around 1. We've been to an endocrinologist and, upon visually examining her, he told us he did not think it was premature puberty as there would be other signs as well such as pubic hair. He told us that this sometimes happens and that it may either get better or worse during puberty. There s no treatment per se apart from antiperspirant. He said to return if other signs if puberty appear.
I also took my daughter to a dermatologist who more or less told me the same thing and prescribed antibiotics which worked but I am not sure I want to use that long term. I am so worried about her. |
Please see another endo. She should be checked. It may not need treatment but should be checked. And pls don't give her antibiotics for bo. I'm on my phone or I would type more |

Pp here. What is the justification for antibiotics for this and why is that preferable to deodorant?
And for the record I am dealing with this for my dd. she has elevated levels of he hormone for body hair and body odor |
|
We did try deodorant but with limited success. The derm prescribed a local antibiotic.
I was thinking about seeing another endocrinologist. The one i saw just did a visual examination- no blood was drawn. How old is your daughter and what treatment is she receiving? i havent met anyone else whose child has this problem. Would you mind sharing who you see if you live in the DC metro area? Thanks. |

My 7.5 year old gets stinky armpits after playing sports or wearing layers in winter. He eve got them sometimes as a toddler.
You can't smell it standing next to him---only if u sniff the armpits of his shirts. He thinks its funny. It is not all of the time either. Pediatrician said not early puberty--totally normal. We bathe every night. Soap takes care of it. I won't use deodorant this young. We eat primarily organic, btw. |
| I am the pp with the 3 yo. My daughter mings even after her bath, which she gets daily so it's not hygiene. We are also 90% organic so it's not that either. I'm at a loss. |
| Definitely get blood work done to check hormone levels. |
| i would see Dr. Priya Vaidnaithan 9sp?) an endo at Children's. She is great with our son who has other issues. |
Thanks for the rec. |
Same for my 7yo DS. I was freaking out (it was so smelly I thought it was me at bathtime), doctor said it was normal, and now doesn't have it all the time. |
