| Today I had an interview for a temp job that would last a month. The company was given 3 resumes from my temp agency, and couldn't decide between us, so they brought us in for interviews. I just got the news that I didn't get it. I had another interview last week for a contract job, and I haven't heard back from that because the company isn't sure if they're even getting the contact at all. This is just kind of a rant because I'm exhausted from throwing out resumes, trying to network with people, etc. and not having things work out. I just feel like I can't win with my job search and I'm starting to feel like I'll be unemployed forever. |
| What field? |
| I'm right there with ya! NTM, all the calls to my references! Ugh, this is getting annoying as hell! |
| Well for the temp agency I'm doing admin work, but I'm only working for them because I'm trying to keep a paycheck coming in while looking for work in my field (defense contracting). I even have a clearance and that doesn't seem to be helping me much. |
I know exactly how you feel. I wish employers would give you a reason why they chose another candidate over you. So frustrating! |
| I would advise as a mentor to a lot of young women, ask a few trusted friends and business professionals to "mock interview" you. I do this with all our interns. It's an invaluable look for me at how they are coming across in interviews. We treat each others as strangers, and I mock interview them for specific jobs. |

I hear you, OP. I've just had five interviews for a job I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get. It's unbelievable how much competition there is for jobs these days, and how many hoops you have to jump through. I think often they have a favored candidate, but they call a whole bunch of people in so they have the appearance of fairness, or something. I feel like I was used, lead along to make me feel like I was an actual candidate when all along, they simply needed to fill out their pool with well-qualified candidates.
I'm so frustrated, I am ready to eat my shoes. I might try that one day, actually. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Why am I always the runner up, not the winner of the pageant? |
|
OP, what email program do you use? J/k.
I was out of work over 3 years, so I have been through what you're going through. Yes, it's absolutely awful. I will cross my fingers that you find something soon! |
| OP, its all serendipity. One week I felt like nobody would ever hire me and three weeks later I had an offer. It will happen for you. |
|
Two things OP:
1. I was actually FIRED from a temp job once so it could be worse. 2. Can the temp agency give you some constructive feedback? When I did my last job search, I was one of the top 2 candidates for 2 different jobs and one I really wanted. I got neither. I had a friend who knew one of the hiring managers call and ask for constructive criticism. She really pressed for the truth after he tried to give her platitudes. I found out that one of my references gave me a bad reference. I Was Shocked. Obviously I fixed that situation and was hired within a couple of months. |
| @ 9:36- I did ask for feedback from the temp agency, but they wouldn't give me any. They just said that "The company thought I was nice but decided to go in a different direction." |
That's the problem. They always give you such a vague answer like that. What does that even mean? |
| I have no idea really. |
|
OP,
I'm in the same boat. I want to throw in the towel, but I can't. I have an interview in the coming days, for a temporary gig, and I am keeping my expectations low, next to zero, because I'm sick of getting so close and then not getting the gig. Hang in there. |
