Tell me how you would deal with this kind of situation.
I work in an open office with cubes. Everyone is pretty close together and you can hear and see what everyone else is doing. No expectation of privacy. One of my coworkers clips his nails at his desk. Disgusting. Another pants into the phone and makes "kissing" noises. Two others leave clothes, shoes, and gym bags strewn around their desks (Everyone has cabinets for their personal belongings.) You literally have to step over their crap to use the microwave or get to a file cabinet. Bosses see and hear this stuff and do nothing. Bringing it up would just make you a "tattle-tale." |

What about talking to the co-worker:
"Mary, I hate to bother you, would you mind putting your gym bag under your desk or somewhere; I almost tripped over it coming in." "Don, I am sorry to bother you, but I can hear you talking to your wife on the phone - and its so cute how sweet you are with her - but I'm totally getting distracted - would you mind being a bit quieter?" I have no idea what to do about the toe nail clippings. |

wait! i have an idea (i'm pp)
find a clipping on the floor - or produce one yourself - act horrified and be loud - OMG! is that a toenail? that is so gross - how did it get in here? that is so weird. would someone clip their toes at work? that is really gross" |
| Don't say a word. Buy some earplugs and do what it takes to be able to work in an office (promotion). |
| When I say office, I mean, not in a cubicle. |
| Ignore it. Nothing good will come of you being the cubicle cop. |
| Do you have an HR department? Or person? If so, send an anonymous letter to HR. |
I really agree with this. Once you are THAT person everyone will hate on you, even the ppl who do nothing obnoxious. |
Agreed. You don't want to be a tattle tale. Find ways to deal with it. Not to mention, who is to say you don't have habits that annoy your coworkers? It's possible you're just not aware of them. I have a similar setup (cubicles), and I have a coworker who is always complaining about the others ("so and so makes weird noises" or "so and so is always on the phone"). I have never had the heart to tell her that she makes noises when she eats, her constant laughter (from looking at online stuff) sometimes interferes with my work, and she is constantly making noises opening and closing her bottle of soda. The point is, we all make some kind of noise and have habits. When you work in close proximity to other humans, there will be things that annoy you. Unless people are doing extremely inappropriate things (use your imagination), it's best to let the little stuff go. And clipping nails, gym bags... those are small things. |
| Seems they are all ill-mannered and sloppy, not necessarily rude. But I understand, and also would feel disgusted and annoyed. |
grow up! |
| I agree with giving an anon memo to the nail clipper, the gym clothing dropper, and the kissy noise caller. Can you leave last one day and leave the memos on people's chairs and then they'll see them the following morning? |

| A co-worker of mine DOUSES herself with perfume. She leaves a smelly trail everywhere she goes. |
NO! Don't be a passive aggressive asshole. If it bothers you, say something. If you don't have the guts to say it to their face, don't go around leaving weird notes. Be a grown up. |
