On the very inside of my upper thigh, there is a ... thing. It's right at the edge of where my pubic hair starts, but it's not from waxing or shaving. I don't know what it's officially called, but I want to say it's a boil for some reason. I do not have health insurance but even if I did I might be too embarrassed to go to a doctor for this. It's raised, swollen, and anything that touches it, from pants to the other thigh, hurts. The very tip seems to have liquid in it, but there's no way I could pop it.
How can I make this swollen mess go down/go away, and stop hurting? Is it too much to ask if there's anything I can do to make it never come back? Thank you. |
| Size? Like a pimple? Or more like a hive? |

It's probably an ingrown hair. They can get crazy big. You should go to a doc, but it could go down on it's own or with some home care. I'm not qualified to tell you how, but google it.
I had one on my bikini area once and also my armpit. |
| It could be a boil, I had one in grad school and went to planned parenthood to have it checked out (after convincing myself it was a cancerous lymph node or something). They said I likely nicked myself shaving or something. Put warm compresses on it several times a day. I don't remember how long it took to go away. |
| Put aside your embarrassment and check it out. I know a girl who died in her 40s because of sarcoma cancer that started as a lump on her leg. |
+1 ingrown hair. google it. I think hot compresses (hot moist face cloth) helps, but I can't remember why. I had one once and it went away on its own in about a week. |
| subcutaneous cyst. Warm compresses and fish oil salve. It will errupt into a bloody pus filled mess but then it will go away |
| I had one that lasted a year. It was gross, gone now though! |
| Hot baths with plenty of epsom salts. If you're a squeezer, your in for a treat! |
| If you pop it it will relieve pressure and you will feel better. Just use a sanitizes needle. |

If you're in Montgomery County, you can go to this clinic where for a $10 donation they'll test for everything but chlamydia. Chlamydia kits you can get for free from Johns Hopkins by mail, and they'll give you the info.

| Heat compresses. Heat draws it out. Agree with Smiley Face Guy. |
| It could also be MRSA, which can start out looking like a bug bite without the itching. But then it swells rapidly and pus collects in there. Oh, and it hurts like h*ll. The pus should be tested to rule out staph. If it continues to swell or the pain increases (with staph that will happen very quickly - over the course of a day) I would see a doctor. |

It's obviously some kind of skin infection - infected hair or boil or something. Home treatment for either is putting a warm washcloth on it for 15 minutes at a time to draw out the infection. If it opens up, you can pour apple cider vinegar or alcohol on it and then put Neosporin on it.
Wash your hands and your clothes after any contact with it. |
Nearly every skin infection you can get is a kind of staph. MRSA is a kind of staph that is resistant to antibiotics. Most staph infections are not MRSA. I would worry about it being MRSA unless it doesn't respond to home treatment.
