What is considered a good yearly raise for a secretary?

Would you consider a yearly raise of $1,500 to be good, or average, etc?

I'd look at the % of the raise, and the industry you're in. You might just want to be grateful you're employed.

Who is called a secretary anymore?

Op here, its 2%. I've been at this law firm in Georgetown for 8 years, and I've always gotten 2%

Chuck Hagel, Jack Lew, John Kerry....everyone else is acting I believe. Pretty sad actually.

I just got 2%. First raise in three years, but not a secretary (at least most days). Take it and shut up, you're lucky you have a job.

I was going to say 3% is "good" so I think 2% is fine. Would it help if you thought of it as a COLA and not as a raise that indicates your worth in some way?

NP here. No need to be nasty to those who ask questions.

One reason why women are paid less is that they don't fight for appropriate raises and promotions. It may be difficult or seem unprofessional to compare with coworkers, so OP is trying to gather information here to get a better idea.

If $1,500 is 2% then your base would be $75,000, which (to me) makes the percentage all the more fair because that base level is pretty high for an administrative position. Our assistant just got a 6% raise but her base was much lower to start with and that higher percent reflected a large increase in her workload.

I got 2% last year.

Well, my employer just announced this year's merit raises will be .09% so 2% seems pretty great to me (but who's counting, it's only money, right?).

No raise -- 3 yrs going and you earn more than i do, OP. I'm in mgmt at a nonprofit

My secretary only calls herself a secretary. And she's awesome.

So you're making $75K? In that case, I think 2% is fine. If you were making well below market rates, I think it would be nice to give a larger raise to work on closing the gap.
