Anyone have experience with using Tallow or Lard as moisturizer?

Been reading many interesting articles and "testimonies" about the use of these as full body/face moisturizers. I'm thinking of trying and just curious if anyone has used it and what are the results.

No, but I've used coconut oil and olive oil with good results.

You have to melt down the coconut oil a bit. It's solid at room temp.

Yes, I have coconut oil at home and I'm going to try it as an overnight moisturizer. Starting to see "age" when I awken in the mornings. Thanks. I did order some tallow though to hopefully help with DD eczema.

I've been using a combination of castor oil and extra virgin olive oil every night to wash my face and then I use a little more as a moisturizer, following the directions from this blog: http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-6674/Why-You-Should-Wash-Your-Face-With-Oil.html

It says to do it twice a day but I've only been doing it at night, and then washing my face with water in the morning or with a little cleanser on mornings that I work out and my face is sweaty. I think I need to change the proportion of castor to EVOO, though. It says to use 75% castor oil if your skin is oily, which mine is, but I've actually been experiencing some dryness since I started doing this so I need more EVOO. I have to say, once you start washing with oil, you'll never want to go back to a soapy cleanser. Every night i feel like I'm getting a facial, it feels so awesome.

I love using coconut oil. You don't need to specifically melt it, just rub it between your fingers for a few seconds and it gets nice and smooth. I can't say of it's been noticeably anti-aging, but it makes my yucky winter dry skin feel soft and supple, and of course it smells amazing.

Fascinating...could you say where you buy tallow or lard to use as a moisturizer? Or a good website to read about it and/or buy it?

OP here. I went ahead and purchased some after reading quite a few articles. I figured I would give it a try. DD's eczema is getting bad again and I'm so tired of the steroid creams. I'm going to also ask a few Amish friends that I have that own cow farms if they have some for sell so if I like it, I can make my own. The recipe to make it into a blam is also on this site.

Could never use them (as a vegetarian). The thought is kind of gross spreading animal fat on your body, isn't it?

Well to a vegetarian I'm sure it is, but as a non-vegetarian it doesn't particularly put me off, if it works.

OP here. Just received the tallow and DD put some on her eczema outbreak (on face). Within 2 hours she said "this new cream works good, it already feels better". Yes! Maybe we can finally get off the steroid cream that she has been using. Very hopeful.....

I have found that coconut oil helps my eczema, especially if I layer it under Cerave cream.

OP here. We tried the coconut oil for her eczema. It never did help. Also, she didn't like her face shining at school. This tallow doesn't leave a shine.

I use goat lard, it is super nice on the skin and is absorbed quite quickly. After an hour, it is hard to tell that you have used anything, and my skin stays moist and supple for 24hrs. And i'm a 60yr old ,red head.
