5 Weeks Pregnant and Menstrual Cycle Crampy

Anonymous
Hi I am 5 weeks pregnant. I have been getting what feels like menstrual cramps on and off throughout the day.
My friend says it's my uterus/cervix stretching.
Is this true?
Anyone else experience this?
I have to other kids and I don't remember this. (They are 10 and 5).

Thanks!

I have had on and off cramping, too (and yesterday mild back pain which seems to have gone away thanks to a little bit of time on the heating pad per the nurse's recommendation when I called).
I think the cramps that feel like you're a few hours from your period starting (that's how it felt like for me) are normal. This is my first pregnancy, but I'm under the impression that unless they are more painful than normal or accompanied by spotting/blood, you should be fine. This is what the nurse told me yesterday.

If you're worried, get to the doctor sooner, but I tend to agree with your friend. Hopefully it's all ok and you have a happy healthy 9 months! Congrats!

It's not your uterus stretching yet, but it could be implantation pain. There are all kinds of weird cramps and pains that happen in early pregnancy (and then in later pregnancy, and then you know, when you give birth...)

I will say this, as someone who's had a miscarriage. When you're having one, it's a lot more painful than regular menstrual cramps. Or it was for me. You'll know when you're having one. And unfortunately, there's nothing you can do if that's what it is.

It is your uterus contracting and enlarging. It is 100% normal. Has happened with both of my pregnancies. Withy first I thought I was getting my period.

This happened to me too. It is either implantation or your uterus stretching like the previous posters have mentioned. I had light bleeding too (enough that i called my doctor). Now I'm 32 weeks!

And also agree. I also went thru a miscarriage and it is a lot more painful than menstrual like cramps. Hopefully you are good. fingers crossed

I'm 6 weeks and have been crampy, too - more so at 4 weeks. The night before I got my positive pregnancy test they were so bad that I cried and was terribly upset that my period must be coming...but it didn't!

I've had 2 pregnancies before this - one that was healthy and one that was a miscarriage (blighted ovum). I remember feeling this crampy with both, so it's hard for me to be assured that this one is ok until I go to the doctor. I would recommend thinking positively and hoping all goes well! Sadly, I found out that you just don't know until that 8 week ultrasound.

For me, I only felt the cramps after my first pregnancy, but it was just what the others said. Maybe it took two pregnancies to sensitize your uterus.

I've had this too - I'm 5.5 weeks. One was so bad yesterday I was stopped in my tracks. Was terrified to see blood but there hasn't been any.. so hoping it's just stretching. This is my third pregnancy (one mc, one healthy kid) and I don't remember it being this bad either time.
