Quick overnight trip for Spring Break

I wanted to travel somewhere fun with my 9 year old son within 2 hours of DC. Can anyone make any recommendations? Any neat resorts within 2 hours with a lot to do?

2 hours is not very far from DC. You are talking Baltimore, maybe Philly, Richmond has a nice zoo I hear. It's a bit early/cold for amusement parks or the beach. Lancaster for train museums and a hotel with an indoor pool like the DoubleTree? Great Wolf/Williamsburg? Hershey might be open on weekends? Snowshoe will be open until March 31, you could do a day and a half on the slopes, but that is 4+ hours. Shenandoah area and Luray Caverns. Massanutten has mountain trails and an indoor waterpark. Liberty Ski Resort for a day on the slopes if you hurry, and/or Gettysburg.

Williamsburg could be fun. My nine year old son enjoyed visiting Jamestown and Yorktown, especially when he was able to participate in hands-on reenactment activities (helping to "clean/load" one of the guns on the boat, etc).

Or what about Virginia Beach and Norfolk? Beach and Navy stuff...http://www.norfolkvisitor.com/norfolknavy/
