For those to be furloughed, how do you supplement income?

Are you looking at second jobs? What kind?

Can you? My husband can't do any freelancing of any sort, even work that isn't in his field, because of his hiring agreement.

My DH is a fed. I was a SAHM. I went back to work part-time to make up the difference. Thankfully, my kids are all older so daycare isn't an issue. I was planning on returning to work in a few months anyway. I just moved the time table up a little.

Schedule the furlough so I don't have to pay for summer camp

I was tempted to cut back ours savings contributions but resisted the temptation, we made a couple changes instead to makeup the difference. 1.) cut cable and go Hulu (net savings of 74 a month) 2.) dropped our smart phones, we were lucky here bc our contracts had been up for awhile, obv it's harder to make this switch when you are mid contract (net savings of 118 a month) 3.) cut grocery budget by 20a week, did this clean and simple by cutting meat down to once a week (net savings of 80 a month) 4.) skimmed 10 bucks off our wknd money, this basically translated to cutting the Saturday bagel run (net savings of 40 a month). These steps help the gap somewhat and we try and just keep a lid on other usual expected expenses and cut where we can. Kids aren't gonna get Easter outfits, I dyed my own roots this week, stuff like that. I'm actually enjoying the extra time off work and not really missing the stuff too much.

That is tough

We're just sucking it up and putting less in savings. (My agency only expects 13 days, not the 22 that some people have so it's a little easier.)

Has anyone in any agency had to take a day unpaid yet? WHen does it actually start?

Schedule too tight to get a 2nd job, so I've canceled our planned Spring Break trip ($1500). Trying to find other ways to cut, but it's really hard. We don't eat out really, but I do spend $12/wk on coffee at SB. About to buy a thermos and make coffee at home to bring to work.

I think the first poster meant blow jobs which is a fine way to earn a living if DH would just pay me

We're easing up on prepaying our mortgage. We've sacrificed savings to do this (underwater so can't refinance for the best rates) as it saves us much more over the long term. We're taking it month by month.
