| My ILs have offered to take the kids for three nights the last week of July. I hate vacationing in the heat of the summer, but my husband doesn't want to pass up the opportunity to get away alone. I don't want to spend a lot of time traveling to the destination since we don't have much time. I looked at the Southern Coast of Maine already, but all the nice hotels are booked solid and houses require a one week rental. I definitely want to go somewhere cooler than DC in late July. Any suggestions on where we should go? |
| Montreal? |
| Martha's Vineyard (Harborview Hotel?) |
| Martha's Vineyard is pretty hard to get to (unless you have a private plane, of course). I wouldn't want to waste so much of a short trip with driving and ferrying. |
There are nonstop flights from DC in the summer. Maybe $300, but airfare anywhere is going to run at least $200. |
| Looks like you can get RT airfare from DCA-MVY for $140 for a nonstop flight leaving Weds. returning Sat. |
Wow, that's an AMAZING price! |

I'd just go to Ocean City, and it's a lot cooler there than in DC because its on the ocean. try www.vrbo.com for rentals.
Or, you could fly to Bermuda - that's only a 2 hour flight and I think it would be a little cooler there too with the caribbean island breeze. |

stay here (bermuda) - its got one of the best locations/best private beaches

I know, I'm tempted myself. |

OP here. We love Bermuda, but I'm concerned that it will be too hot at the end of July. We went to the Bahamas at the beginning of August a couple of years ago, and with the humidity, I felt like I was on the surface of the sun. I know the Bahamas are a little further south than Bermuda, but I'm not sure it would make much of a difference.
Tell me more about Martha's Vineyard. I've never been, but I love southern Maine beaches. Is it a similar feel? Will it be so crowded in July? |
| Portsmouth, NH - a really great little town. Super easy access flying through Boston. |
| All the nice hotels on the coast of Maine are booked? I doubt that. There are thousands of places to stay in Maine. Broaden your search of Maine, consider B & B's, other hotels, etc. |
