Dress codes at Big 3's?

For K, is there such a thing? I hope not.........

No dress code at GDS, but the teachers emphasize comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes suitable for PE (which they have 4/5 days/week) and the playground, which is used multiple times/day. It also helps to dress children in clothing that allows them to use the bathroom independently (e.g., elastic waists vs zippers and snaps). Since there are a lot of art projects, clothing that can get paint and markers on them is also a wise choice.

That would be it for Sidwell too. There is a dress code in the upper and middle schools, but it just prohibits certain things (offensive slogans on tshirts, badly ripped clothing, too much skin) which doesn't (I hope) apply to kindergarteners.

Comfotable play clothes at Beauvoir. The kind of things that you wouldn't mind DC weraing while she painted in art, played in the woods, or rolled around on the play ground in. My kid came home nearly every week with a new rip in the knee of his jeans( always a good sign).

do people really need to be told what's in the posts above? comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing? kids might get their clothes dirty? wow.

PP, thanks for the smile. My DS also often comes home from Beauvoir with a tear in the knees, even in jeans recently purchased. I find it frustrating, so am glad to hear another perspective on the issue - and glad it's not just my boy.

Agree with PPs - comfortable clothes they can play in and get paint on.

I don't think it's an unreasonable question at all, particularly for Beauvoir because NCS requires uniforms.

You would be surprised at the number of girls, in particular, who show up to school wearing shoes that are not appropriate for PE.

NCS has uniforms for MS to minimize the awkwardness of trying to " be cool" at what is a hard age for many girls. In HSC at NCS there is no uniform and they look just like any other girl in NW, except maybe for the pile of books on their back.

I don't understand your point. Are you saying OP's question was unreasonable? Or are you just offering a non sequitur about NCS uniforms? Forgive me if there's a logical connection I'm missing here.

The point of my post is to point out that the bolded above is not a completely accurate statement. NCS has a LS and and US, the LS requires uniforms, the US does not. It does not even seem to have a dress code of any kind.

In kindergarten? This post is ridiculous.

I hate when kids were sneakers/Athletic shoes all the time. Nothing wrong with nice shoes or boots. I send my kids in on PE days in athletic footwear but they wear nicer shoes other days. Personally, I hate how sloppy and grungy most kids in these schools look.

PP, it's that "Big 3" intimidation again. Didn't you know that K kids at Big 3 schools are expected to dress a certain way? It's part of the secret code.

So which schools are the big 3?

Actually, never mind
