Transporting Dog Cross Country for Summer

We are going out west this summer and want to take our dog with us. We will fly, but I won't put our dog on a plane. Are there services that will drive pets cross country? I'm hesitant to drive by myself or have my DH drive by himself, and we don't have friends/family to go with either one of us (and the drive for the entire family would be torture for my kids, and, thus, us).

This is tricky because it seems like the type of people who'd volunteer for this job through Craigslist aren't the type you'd want to leave your dog with.

Thanks! The company posted above looks great, but it would cost us $3700 each way! Ugh, I think my DH will be driving out there.
