Is a trip to Disneyland in California going to cost more than a trip to London?

This would be sightseeing in London vs. Disneyland. Is the cost of park passes and such going to cost more than a trip to London?

I think we need a little more information...

Are you talking about one day? Multiple days?

Airfare and hotel?

Or just literally a day in Disneyland vs a day in London?

Honestly? We cancelled a trip to Disneyworld in favor of a trip to Europe later in the year. I couldn't stomach paying the same for Florida!!

OP here. We would be going for a week. Airfare and Hotel would be needed. Is a rental car needed for Disneyland?

If you are *just* doing Disneyland, and staying very close by or on property, maybe not. If you plan on doing anything else in Southern CA--going to the beach, visiting Los Angeles or San Diego...then YES,you will definitely need a car.

Just Disneyland? No rental. But a week? Seems like a lot.

OP here. I guess the other question would be how many days would he good for Disneyland? I keep thinking that the cost of flying and length of the flights would need to make things atleast a few days to a week, no?

You didn't mention how many or how old your kids are...but I would plan on at least 2 days for Disney--one for the original Disneyland park, and another for California Adventure. Some would say you even need a 3rd day. I wouldn't go all the way to California and just go to Disney, though. I would spend time at the beach and visit other things.

OP, do you mean Disneyworld? Disneyworld is in orlando, FL, and has several theme parks - Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and a water park. Disneyland is in southern CA and has just Magic Kingdom. There are tons of non-Disney things to do in both areas as well. How old are your kids? Are you planning to do things other than Disney? If your goal is Disney and not other sights in southern CA, then I'd definitely go to Disneyworld in FL instead- it is much closer and cheaper to fly there from Dc, and the park is much bigger with more hotel, food, and park options. If you have young kids, going for just a few days is sufficient, and my guess is that a few days in Disneyworld in FL is cheaper than going to Europe (not an apples to apples trip comparison, though)- although Disney is not cheap!

That is not correct. "Magic Kingdom" is in Disney World in Florida. "Disneyland" is the official name of the theme park in Anaheim. And there is the additional park they built about a decade (or maybe more?) ago right next door (literally--the entrances are right across from each other and you can easily walk!) called "California Adventure."

How old are your kids?

I've been to Disneyland (California) several times as an adult with kids. Went to Disney World (Florida) a couple of times as a kid myself and currently am planning a trip with my kids. IMO, a week is way too long for Disneyland (which is much, much smaller than Disney World.) A day trip is enough. Maybe two days if your kids are little and/or you're really into Disney. Legoland is worth another day. Everything in SoCal requires a car. It will cost less than London, but is not worth a 5-6 hour flight unless, as PP said, you're doing other fun stuff in California.

If, OTOH, you're planning a week's vacation, Disney World is the place to go. It can cost as much as London, if you choose an expensive hotel, but you won't need a rental car (nor would you in London.)

We did Disneyland in California in a day. I imagine you could probably do 3 days there. But definitely not more than that.

I would not fly all the way to S. California and only do Disneyland. There's so many other things to see/do there.

If you do that (multiple things in S. Cali) then it probably would be comparable in cost to going to London.

For the record, we just priced out airline tix to Orlando and San Diego (driving distance to Anaheim) for spring break. San Diego was almost half the cost....so to the PP: NO, Florida is not cheaper.

OP: I've been to Disneyland a million times. 2- 3 days just for Disneyland is probably avg depending on the age of your kids. We are going in the summer. Staying at a Disneyland hotel and total for 3 days, just for tickets and hotel for 5 is $3000. Hope this helps.
