Falling Beta

Anonymous
I am getting really worried.

Beta 1 was 465 (11dp5dt). Four days later it was about 2200 (15dp5dt). Today it was 3612 (17dp5dt). My Dr said she was looking to see a number which rose at least 66% (3655) and mine was just below the cutoff. The two other tests were also done at a different lab so she said that there could be variations in the numbers, but she needs to see what is going on. Are these really bad singals to you? Any advice?

Tomorrow I go in for an u/s to see if they see a sac. Please wish us luck.

well i'm not a doctor, but i know that doctors just LOVE to scare the crap out of people. from what i've heard your beta should double in 48 TO 72 hours. You missed the 48 but you're within the 72. An online buddy of mine was told at 5 weeks that her numbers didn't double in 48 hours so she should have a D&C. Good thing she told them to stuff it because her baby girl is 2 months old now. Hang in there honey...beta hell is awful.

your numbers sound OK....could be a case of the disappearing twin. Good Luck and best wishes!

thanks. i wish vanashing twin were an option, but alas, I did elective single embryo transfer.

Don't lose hope, I once had a case where the results of my 3rd beta were below that of my second. I was crushed. They did one more beta and my numbers were exactly were they should have been if you ignored the 3rd test. The doctor said it was probably a lab error, which is very rare but does happen occasionally. Best of luck!

Hi Travis,

I'm no expert, but that doesn't seem like a very big difference to me. I will send lots of positive thoughts your way, regardless, and hope that you have a wonderful ultrasound tomorrow!

Good luck, but try not to stress too hard --

Marie

I agree, try not to stress out about this. There is the whole "vanishing twin" thing, where two embies initially stuck, but one of them disappeared causing your beta to rise quickly, then drop off a bit. Hang in there...I'm sending tons of positive vibes your way for a great u/s! Keep us posted!!

Kate

Thanks for your advice. Don't think there is a vanishing twin, though - we did elective Single Embryo Transfer!

Doubling time went from 42 hours to 62 hours!!! I haven't slept in 2 nights either. Travel and jet lag.

Hi Travis,
I know nothing about betas, but will be wishing you luck. I agree with the others that your numbers seem close to what they should be. Can you test again at the same lab?

I wouldn't worry just yet either. Early on the numbers rise faster and start to slow up when they get higher. A 2/3 increase is really good.

I'm hoping that your numbers are just a difference between labs. I had an issue during my first and second beta. Two different labs. My resultrs were 125 and then 2 days later 112. I was devastated but it turned out that the lab screwed up.

I am pregnant now with a singleton boy. I wish the best for you too.

Wow...I am surprised that the doctor made a big deal about this...you are so close to the number they wanted...I am hoping...please keep us posted..I think your numbers look good though...

Hugs,
Dawn

Thank you all for your support. i went in today and everything was fine. there was a sac with a yolk. they said to go in next week and see if there is a heartbeat. This thing is a roller coaster. now i know why people take breaks. for us, though - this is as close as we've come. 4 iuis and nothing happened.
