Are these easy to find?
What are you using them for? If it's just to season a soup or going in the crockpot, I would use a ham bone.
Shoppers
In general I'd say you'll find them in stores that carry a good selection of Latino food. I've brought them at Shoppers on Nicholson Lane in Rockville and the Giant in Wheaton on University (just before Veirs Mill).

Clarendon whole foods has them sometimes.
I've seen them in whole foods. But I'd go to the Mega Mart on Nicholson.
I'm curious what meal you're going to cook?
Nicholson Lane in Rockville |
^^^oops it's actually Parklawn Drive in Rockville (continuation of Nicholson travelling east from Rockville Pike.
Any grocery store in DC, MD, VA has them. Also, there is a port butcher called Three Little Pigs on Georgia Avenue, NW. The place is awesome.
Not my experience in Chevy Chase, Bethesda or Potomac. As noted before, you generally need to go to a grocery store that serves a Latino population.
No, more the black community. I've found that when I ask for them, they have them. I don't always see them on the shelves. I remember my mom asking me to get some and I was so embarrassed. I asked for pig fat and the guy was like "ham hocks?" I live in NW and used to live in CC, MD. Most grocery stores have them. |
I wonder if Stachowski's in Georgetown would have them?
Eastern Market. The butcher toward the center sells them.
