Eliot Hine

Eliot Hine MS had 20 sixth grade slots available and only 18 people put in for them. There is no waiting list for sixth grade at Eliot Hine.

Why does Eliot Hine they only have 20 slots available? Isn't it a big under-enrolled school? Isn't Eliot Hine the target of a recruiting effort by in-bounds families and DCPS?

For 6th grade it's only an OOB lottery....students that are in boundary are guaranteed to be able to attend. So, the school looks at its crystal ball and tries to estimate how many inboundary kids will attend this fall and then sets aside conservatively what it can for OOB enrollments. So the administration felt comfortable saying they would have 20 6th grade spots for OOB. Once it's closer to the start of school they'll likely more spots to offer (not that there are kids waiting for them from what you've said above).

Neither IB families nor those in its feeder schools have to do the lottery. (Duh.)

Probably another cluess stroller-brigader.

I have an older kid and in boundary for EH, and I wondered why Hardy has 70 slots available, and EH and SH have comparatively fewer. Especially as EH does have a large building.

No need for the snark. I haven't followed DCPS middle school lotteries before.

I still don't understand why Eliot Hine doesn't have more interest. They are going International Baccalaureate, its feeder schools are pushing hard for enrollment, they've got a marketing campaign ongoing, its feeder schools have improving test scores and increasing enrollment . . .

Hardy has a wait list of 131. Deal - which isn't even opening any of its slots up to out of bounds students - has a wait list of 136. Stuart Hobson has a waiting list of 79. Plus DCPS closed a couple of middle schools, and those students need to go somewhere.

If you can't get into Deal or hardy or Stuart Hobson, wouldn't Eliot Hine be the next school on your list? Why isn't it as popular is one might think it should be?

I think they are going to get there. If they do, it will be the fabulous Maury community that will get them there. A bunch of kids will go from Maury to EH this year, and this will continue.

What is the breakdown of Maury's in bounds versus out of bounds?

What percentage of Maury's fifth grade is econ-disadvantaged?

How big is Maury's fifth grade? How many are going to Eliot Hine? How many went last year?
