we go there all the time. I stay in Coronado. The Hotel Del is 5 star. Crown Inn is nice and kid friendly. Not a 5 star but good and excellant location. Have a good time.

san diego is a wonderful city and while the hotel del is one of my favorite hotels it can be VERY busy during christmas...if you are looking for something a bit more relaxing you can always stay in la jolla or downtown. san diego is very easy to get around...everything is basically 25 mins away (nothing like DC!)

If you're there with the family, try the Embassy Suites. Nothing fancy, but clean, central location, decent pool, lots of room to spread out, free breakfast and free happy hour. Did I mention the free happy hour?

There's a Lowe's in Coronado that we stayed at - we were pre-kids at the time but I remember that there seemed to be tons of young kids around. We actually ended up staying a couple of nights at the Del (last minute decision) and although the Del is great, I would not recommend it for kids under 8 - seemed like much more of an adult/older children place to me. Hope you have fun - I loved San Diego and can't wait until we take our kids there one day.

I love staying in Del Mar. Beautiful place.

I would recommend downtown, Crown Point/Mission Bay or Coronado as a location not to far from either attraction. Crown Point is right next to Sea World and on Mission Bay which has a sidewalk and a few playgrounds right along the bay. Check out http://www.paradisepoint.com/Paradise_home.aspx. This would put you 5 minutes from Sea World. Dowtown San Diego is pretty fun/touristy and very close to the zoo - maybe 10 minutes. Coronado is probably 20 minutes from the zoo and 30 from sea world. The Hotel Del is one of a kind (make sure you go there and have lunch and/or drinks on the deck) but the Lowe's Coronado may be more of a kids vacation spot.

I lived there for years and I really really miss it...

Have fun!

We really liked the Catamaran Resort Hotel (Mission Bay) when we visited a few years ago.

Hotel Del Coronado by far. SUPER family friendly and very easy to get anywhere. The Wild Animal Park is amazing by the way- you will love it.

Any new recommendations for San Diego? We don't need to be close to the beach, but dont want to be too far from Lego, Sea World, etc. Prefer a suite or condo since we have an infant and toddler with earlier bedtimes. Thanks!

Recently moved from San Diego. The wild animal park is fun. Worth a visit. Zoo is the best. Hotel Del is very kid friendly. They have ice skating by the sea during the holidays. All the attractions (zoo, legoland, sea world, wild animal park) are a reasonable distance from Coronado. so much fun!

We always stay in the Westin Horton Plaza, mostly because we take the train down from L.A. It's close to Amtrak and also the light rail lines. Short, easy bus ride into Balboa Park. Gaslamp District has lots of restaurants.

Is the Hotel del Coronado still recommended? We've booked a Victorian Suite there for spring break but some of the recent reviews aren't looking so hot--complaints about service and dinginess are worrying me. Our kids are 7, 3, and 1--we will spend some of our time out and about at the local attractions, but will also be spending a lot of time around the hotel.
