Beautiful but worn leather bag - can it be cleaned and freshened up?

Anonymous
I have a Marc by Marc Jacobs bag that I adore and have used all the time for 4 years. The leather is soft and perfect now, but looks faded and worn in spots. Can I take it somewhere to get cleaned and polished somehow? I live in NWDC.

It is mouse gray, same color as the one in this link: http://www.polyvore.com/marc_jacobs_mouse_grey_leather/thing?id=17174011

I have to say: the bag has held up amazingly well. I spent more on it than I had ever spent before on a bag, and I was furious when I brought it back to Bloomingdales for repair when some threads came out after the first few weeks. They sent it back to MJ for repair, and it has been an absolute workhorse since then.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I took my Coach bag to a place that fixes my shoes (in VA). They did a great job of cleaning it up and it looks practically new. I would see if there is a place near you.

Thanks, I will look into that. I've never gotten shoe repairs, other than a heel at a dry cleaner. Can anyone recommend a great shoe repair place in NWDC or Bethesda? Thanks!

You could ask who they recommend at Bloomingdales. I know there is a place that recolors and repairs handbags in the basement at Mazza Gallery in Friendship Heights.

A friend of mine takes her Ferragamo bag to a leather guy east of Dupont circle. I think it's off P St on 21st. She swears by him.

Love to know the VA guy. I have my mom's Coach briefcase from the 70s and It'd be great to refurb it a bit.

He ruined a pair of my shoes and was a jerk about it.
