Pupil Personnel Workers-- Good or Bad?

Anonymous
I have had a horrible experience with my school's pupil personnel worker. She has seriously hindered the situation with which we are dealing. What experience has anyone else had with one of these people?

They work for the school district, not for your child or your family.

These people? Like in any other profession or position, there are some who do it well and some who don't. It would also depend on your specific situation.

Job descrption:

Serves as an advocate for students and their families to access appropriate services. Acts as case manager for identified students in intervention implementation, data collection, progress monitoring, and programs changes. Serves as liaison with school system, local community and government service providers."

We had one who I was very surprised to discover over a series of IEP mtgs was not an advocate for my child. I never figured out what the hell her role was but she ranged from useless to teaming up with the rest of the IEP team against us. She offered no resources or insights either. I don't know why these people exist in the system.
