Need to Go to Traffic Court-Continuance?

I have a traffic violation and need to go to court. However, the court date is a terrible day for me, as I have a REALLY important presentation to do at work.

This does not sound like a good reason for a continuance, I don't think they will have any sympathy for my work situation. Any suggestions or work arounds on how I can push this court date out?

If you are in Virginia, you may be able to call and get a continuance over the phone. Your other option would be to hire an attorney to handle the case with you. Your attorney should be able to get the case continued without your help or, if possible, do the case in your absence. If you showed up to a court date where the charge carried a possibility of jail time (i.e. reckless driving, DWI, some DOS), the court would give you a continuance to consult with an attorney if you wanted to do that.
