Post partum - long menstrual cycles normal?

Anonymous
I am anxious to start TTC #2 via Natural IVF, but to do that I need to start a new cycle.
I breastfed my DD for 17 monts during which time I didn't have a period. My first menstrual cycle started almost 40 days ago. All the testing is done at the clinic but in just waiting for a new cycle to start.
My cycles were on the longer side prior to having my daughter. Is it normal to have this experience post partum? When should I see my doctor? My RE keeps reminding me that Im not getting any younger... TIA

Your RE sounds like a jerk He keeps reminding you that you're not getting any younger?!? As if you have control over when your cycles start and end?

That being said, there is a prescribed medication to induce a menstrual cycle. Maybe Provera? Inducing menstrual cycles is one way to treat and regulate those with PCOS. Your RE should be more than informed when it comes to this.

My first few were long and I was eager to get back to RE too - turned out I'd become hypothyroid - took four weeks to fix that and then cycles got more normal - doing my first pp fertility treatment now and am 12 mo pp
