How to find out about lectures, seminars, etc. open to the public

Anonymous
Where can I find a reasonably comprehensive listing of readings, lectures, seminars, etc. that are open to the public? I'm thinking Carnegie Institution, JCC, Brookings, Politics & Prose, etc. Public affairs, music, art, science, etc. Thanks for any suggestions.

Just go to the websites - public events will be advertised, and there is almost always a place where you can sign up for RSS feeds on publications and activities. If you're looking for events on specific topics, poke around the web and you'll find sites that compile calendars of all the upcoming events focused on, say, foreign policy and the Middle East, for example, or the economy.

Check the Thursday District Weekly section in the Post.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I found a Web link to the calendar PP mentioned:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/metro/dc/index.html

In the middle of the page there's a link for the "Events Calendar."

The Northwest Current publishes every Wednesday and has a nice listing of events around the city in the week ahead including concerts, lectures, nature walks, and all sorts of other fun stuf.
