How long did it take for your hCG to go down after miscarriage?

Anonymous
I had a miscarriage back in September at 11 weeks and had a D&C. I've now had another one but this time at 6 weeks. I obviously don't need a D&C, but I had my hCG drawn yesterday to see if it was going down and it's still just around 1000. How long did it take for yours to go back down? I first starting bleeding on Saturday. I'm having another drawn next Monday to see if it's gone down more.

OP, I am so sorry for your loss. I also recently suffered two consecutive miscarriages and it's hard.

To answer your question, I don't know exactly when my levels went down, but I did get my period 4-5 weeks after both miscarriages. I think it takes several weeks to go back down. After my second miscarriage, I had levels drawn about 2.5 weeks after the miscarriage and still had slightly elevated levels. I also checked at home with a pregnancy test about 3 weeks after the first (it came back negative) and 4 weeks after the second (it came back negative). It sounds like it is still pretty early for your levels to be down all the way. If it started Saturday, I suspect you are still bleeding? Wait until your next blood draw to make sure things are going down. If you are concerned some tissue may be left, you could always get an ultrasound to make sure everything passed.

Wishing you comfort and healing.

OP, my heart goes out to you -- any loss is hard, and multiple losses just absolutely suck.

For me the timing of the hCG drop has really depended on the particular miscarriage, but generally it's about 3 weeks or so, and I get my period about 2-3 weeks after that. I know it's so aggravating to be several weeks out from a miscarriage and still have these hormones in your system.

Hoping you have a smooth and speedy recovery. You'll be in my thoughts.

I think it took mine about 3 1/2 weeks - got period 4 weeks and 1 day from D&C

Thanks everyone. My level was high enough my doc wanted another one to see how much it's going down so I went in yesterday to have another one drawn, and have a sono just to make sure things were happening on their own, which they are. If the level hasn't gone down though, then there's concern for ectopic apparently...so hopefully that's not the case. I understand it won't have gone all the way down, just looking to be sure it's trending downwards. I've been lucky enough to get pregnant fairly quickly, just not lucky in keeping the pregnancies. I do hope the 3rd times the charm as they say...but we'll see. Thanks for all your thoughts-really appreciate it.
