Traveling

How late in your pregnancy is it still okay to travel (seven hour drive)? I was hoping to squeeze in a beach trip at 32 weeks pregnant. Thanks.

My midwives said no travel past I think two hours (or maybe three) from 36 weeks on. We went to the Cayman Islands when I was 27 weeks along, and it was great to get away.

So, could you do it, probably. But a seven hour drive sounds really exhausting at that point. If you go, make sure to stop every few hours to get up, stretch, etc.

It probably depends on the circumstances of your pregnancy. I think I'd do a 7 hour drive at 32 weeks as long as everything was okay with my pregnancy at that point. I flew cross-country at 28 weeks and that worked out well.

Depends on your circumstances. Check with your OB. I was AMA with a healthy pregnancy and advised not to travel at 30-32 weeks. (I had just taken a 2 hour flight and OB wasn't happy, though he didn't tell me any travel restrictions before I did it). I did an 11 hour drive at around 26 weeks and was fine. Not sure I would have been physically comfortable going that far at 32 weeks.

32 weeks should be fine, as long as your pregnancy is normal. I'd check with your OB before your trip. You will need to make sure to stop frequently and stretch, and keep hydrated. It might not be a super-comfortable trip, though; I would have opted for something closer to home at that point.

I flew to Mexico for a work training/vacation at 31 weeks this past Jan with no problem!

With a normal pregnancy I think that's fine. For car trips my OB recommended frequent stops, stretching, and lots of water.

The reality is - if you go into labor you'll be able to get to A hospital, even if it's not yours.
