Twins

Does anyone know whether Montgomery county has a policy of separating twins?

It's up to the parents, but you have to work with your principal and teachers if you want them together.

Up to parents in K (though school strongly suggest to separate), then it's a policy to separate them in Grade 1 and later... I didn't go further and check actual documents as I had no intention to keep my twins together even in K. They much better off in different classes

As a policy, no, but most principals default to separating. If you want them together, you need to make it known during orientation and be prepared to present a compelling case.

I think it is generally school's preference to separate. A twin mom told me that MD passed some law recently to allow you to request/force the school to allow you to put them together.

PP here--meant to add that I'm speaking of K orientation, assuming you are talking about kids entering kindergarten.

People get "law" mixed up with guidelines. There is no such law.

Our's were initially separated and then were in same class in 5th grade. It actually worked out fine as they are boy/girl and don't do much together anyways....

There was a bill, that got sponsored, but the latest info I can find is from four years ago, so it seems it was never passed--maybe somebody has a more up-to-date source.

Virginia DOES have a law that allows parents to choose.
