Nurses and doctors, which hospital would you avoid?

avoid holy cross. Go to Suburban, they have a seperate pediatrics wing.

Depends what it's for ... pediatric care? maternity care? adult care? surgery?

For pediatric ER care?

Holy Cross has a pediatric ER with trained Peds ER physicians. Children's has peds trained ER docs. At Suburban there's a pediatrician in the ER but not a trained pediatric emergency room physician. Georgetown has pediatricians in the ER. Sibley has neither. Providence has neither. Not sure about Fairfax but likely has peds ER docs as it's a pretty big place.

Speaking as a pediatrician, I would say this: one does not need to do a 3 year academic and research fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine in order to provide excellent emergency pediatric care for children. That said, I always recommend suburban hospital's pediatric ED for my patients. It is very kid-friendly and family friendly and the care they receive is excellent.

At Childrens Hospital's ER you will most likely be seen by a resident (doctor in training) who will be supervised by a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Physician. Most of my patients report that this generally translates into excessively long waits and ER stays- especially during the winter months. Definitely avoid sibley, as there are no pediatricians in the ED

Not a doctor or nurse, but to the pp who is unsure about Fairfax - they do indeed have a pediatric ER.

I was really impressed with Fairfax ped er. My dd (2) fell and our ped thought her leg might be fractured and sent me to Fairfax. When we arrived-a ped radiologist (is that the name) was waiting for us and we went right in (our ped had called the hospital ahead) and they gave us excellent care.

Avoid Doctors' Hospital in PG County.

I would avoid Suburban for any surgeries. The Dr.s are great, but the nurses do not that the time to care for the patients. May times they won't even bother to read the Dr's notes if the patient needs specific care.
