It looks like a definite decision to package Hillary in a certain way. Alec had met her parents in the early days, he knew everything. The DM had photos of her parents leaving his apartment in the beginning of their relationship.

What if the parents were given "assistance" to retire to Spain to add validity to the phony background?

Why weren't her parents' names used in their NYT wedding announcement? Her parents have high status NYT-worthy bonafides that are name-checked in every other NYT announcement - Harvard, Georgetown, JD, MD, Boston General. Very interesting.

Because they (Hillary and Alec) have been hiding her background from the beginning. She had an interview around that time with a NYT reporter and he wrote about 'her faint Spanish accent, the remainder of a childhood spent between Spain and the US', or something to that effect.

I have read this thread from page 1 every spare moment since last night and FINALLY caught up.

My primary takeaway is- those poor kids. But thank goodness they’re young and hopefully unaware of all the drama. How horrible it would have been if this blew up 10 years from now?

Alec is Hailey's uncle. That doesn't make him Justin's uncle, let alone make Hillary Justin's aunt.

Especially considering Haliey is an adult, and Hillary didn't marry Alec until late in life.
