Math acceleration in elem school?

Is math acceleration still happening, with kids having the chance to be in a homogeneous class with kids at her/his learning pace? That's how it was done for my oldest, but I have an incoming kindergartener this fall and don't know if that has changed with Curriculum 2.0.
If your kid is in k-3rd grade, would you mind letting me know if that still happens in your school under 2.0? I'm wondering how common it is. I'd be particularly interested in hearing about experiences in Silver Spring, where we live, and Chevy Chase/Bethesda, where we have considered moving in a couple of years for commuting reasons. Thanks!
