Where to Buy Quality, Stylish Clothes?

Everything at the mall stores is polyester!

Well the fancy pants DCUMs might shut me down here- but I am really into LLBean and Eddie Bauer these days, mostly because of the unconditional guarantee. I mean you can't find black-tie clothes there, but for simple stuff- pants, skirts, tshirts, etc. it is good quality.

I was going to say LL Bean too! Love their stuff.

I like Lands End Canvas, too.

What's your definition of "stylish," OP?

Oh my god. Do you people consider ll bean stylish? Come on!

Here are the brands I like:

Elie Tahari
J. Crew
Boden
Banana Republic (I wouldn't say it's great quality but for causal things it's okay)
Athleta and Lucy (for workout clothes)

I am the first PP- I realize they're not stylish but if you need quality basics, it's a start!

Wasn't the OP asking for stylish?

NP here, I'm not a fan of LLBean etc for clothes (besides ca,ping stuff) but I agree the polyester situation has gotten out of control!

Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, the Gap, the Limited etc. -- all my usual go tos for basic work shirts are almost all 100 % polyester.

Are there women who don't stink after wearing polyester all day at work?

OP here. This is my problem. The stores that used to sell quality are now selling polyester but at the same or higher prices than before.

I would try LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, etc. for basics, but nothing more.

So it's the polyester in the blouses that makes them stink? I thought it was me? Clearly I'm naive on these things -- I definitely have a couple blouses that I can only wear once, and then have to launder because they just get too stinky otherwise.

I go to NYC, LA, or Europe for quality, stylish clothes at mid-range prices. The DC area just sucks for clothing. You can do ok at Barneys Co-Op but you have to watch the racks there like a hawk (esp for sizes bigger than 2/4) and who has time to do that? Plus, a lot of what I find at Barneys really isn't acceptable for my office and it's often very expensive unless you catch a sale. My colleague really likes Saks, but it's a bit out of my price range.

LL Bean, etc are ok for weekend basics. Just not formal enough for work.

PP here - sometimes I get sent there for work. Ditto LA and NYC.
