Is there a website that has MD public school demographics?

Anonymous
We are interested in potentially moving to MD from VA. Fairfax County has a website that includes demographics, ESL %, gifted, etc.

Does MD have the same? I'm specifically looking into Bethesda, Rockville, Potomac area.

MCPS has all of this laid out school by school on the website.

on the MCPS website, each school has an "at a glance" page, which gives the info you're looking for. You would have to look at each school, though. I don't think it's available by cluster.

You should also check out safety at a glance. The bottom left has "do you feel safe".

Drive by the school. If every sign is also in Spanish you'll know where the resources are really going.

God forbid we should help some poor children.

Funny how no other immigrants base in America ever got their own teachers, signs, and bilingual aids.
But yes, MoCo provides for its poor illegal aliens, above and beyond. So don't fret.

Not sure what you mean by this other than to be a prejudiced meanie. My DD attended a Title I school (sacre bleu!) She actually turned out alright. Now a straight A student in AP classes in HS, headed to college and totally bi-lingual. Not sure where people get the idea that immigrants and minorities are draining resources from their brilliant white children. But then again, as a white person in Montgomery County, you are not the majority! Better to stay in Fairfax if you want more white people!

Greatschools.net will give down student demographics, ready scores and farm rates

Except when they did. My grandmother grew up in a town made up largely of German immigrants. The town school had signs and books in both German and English. The teacher (one teacher, small rural school) taught in both German and English since many of the students spoke no English at home and therefore began school monolingual in a language other than English. There have been schools like this all over the US in towns which were predominantly made up of immigrants from one country. If you don't want a school teaching all of the students, just the ones you approve of, there are plenty of private schools you could tour. Maybe you can find one sufficiently "selective" for your tastes.

Maryland especially montgomery county encourages undocumented immigrants by don't ask don't tell policies for farms, instate college tuition, driver licenses and bowing down to casa and laraza.

Opposite situation from my father in Chicago. He was sent home from kindergarten with a note saying don't come back until he learns some basic English.

Either way, society needs to determine how to best spend a fixed, and diminishing, amount of funds. I agree with PPs, Montgomery county has made its choice clear.

So happy to see that the xenophobes aren't spending all of their time commenting on WaPo articles about immigration reform. Time to crawl back under your rock.

I guess you voted against the MD Dream Act. Too bad for you that it passed overwhelmingly.

Time to take your xenophobic self over to a Lou Dobbs page where you can find company in your misery.
