House/Townhouse in NOVA for $500 - $550, great for kids

We are looking to move out of the city with our three kids (4,5, and 9 years old). We are thinking of Fort Hunt - I think Annandale is too far. We want to keep DH's commute into DC (Mcphearson) less than 45 minutes via metro/bus. Our top priorities are community, safety, commute and then schools. I think middle of the road Fairfax schools would be fine for us.

We'd like the kind of neighborhood where tweens and teens hang out and play basketball into the evening. Where a pack of kids goes to the park together. Either town houses or SFHs would be fine.

You might be able to find something down in the Kingstowne area, near Franconia-Springfield Metro.
