1st time expectant Mom--book recs

Good morning all!

Please recommend some good pregnancy books for me. I am a first time expectant Mom and know nothing of what to expect.

Thank you so much!

Not about pg, but a must-have to get you through the first 3 months after birth:

Karp's "Happiest Baby on the Block" - also comes in video

Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy is good, and Jenny McCarthy's Belly Laughs is funny. Pregnancy Sucks is also funny.

I'm 10 weeks pregnant with my first and am reading:

The Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy
Baby 411
The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth (if you are interested in natural child birth)
Happiest Baby on the Block

I just had my first and I read these along with a couple others while pregnant

The Secrets of the Baby Whisperer by tracy hogg
Sipppy Cups Aren't for Chardonay (more funny that advice)
Happiest Baby on the Block (we got the cliff notes version in our infant care class we took)

Pregnancy Week by Week and What to Expect when you're expecting are the two bibles I relied on....I also enjoyed From the Hips.

Second the suggestion for Mayo Clinic Guide...great reference.

These are all great. On the purchasing side of things, Baby Bargains has been the best recommendation ever!

I am looking for some books as well. Someone told me the "pregnancy bible" was a good reference. Has anyone tried it?

For pregnancy, another vote for Mayo Clinic. It is fantastic.

For baby-related info, Baby Bargains and Baby 411.

I LOVE Pregnancy Sucks - it's especially funny if you are feeling pretty miserable. I'm not really a laugh out loud at books type of person, but that one has cracked me up on many occasions. There's also a Pregnancy Sucks for Men, which I bought for my husband knowing full well that he was suffering (quietly, to his credit) as a result of how bad I felt!

Pregnancy Week by Week is pretty basic, but I liked knowing what had changed each week. If you can get past the preachiness of What to Expect, it's also a good source of info. Everyone - including doctors and new moms - has advised me to take that one with several large grains of salt.

Baby Bargains - invaluable for registering for the big stuff, clothes, etc.
The Pregnancy Journal: A Day To Day Guide To A Healthy And Happy Pregnancy - a friend loaned me this and i just bought it for an expecting friend - it's awesome. no pictures, though.
What to Expect/Girlfriend's Guide - What to Expect has great month-by-month stuff, girlfriend's guide is pretty entertaining
the Stephanie Wilder-Taylor books mentioned below - very funny.

would recommend checking books out of the library, going to book sales (local libraries, schools) and checking www.bestbookbuys.com for used books, since a lot of people get rid of these books after the pregnancy. I found all 3 What to Expect books for about $1-$2 each, though not the latest version of Expecting. (w/ First Year and Toddler Years, i got lucky.)

I really liked From the Hips.

It went through most topics without too much bias.

If you are nursing, this is a great resource-

The Nursing Mother's Companion
by Kathleen Huggins

I also used the What to expect first year, Ferber's Sleep book, and Secrets of The Baby Whisperer

Baby Bargains is the best book I read while I was pregnant- really good advice on what to buy for baby.
