HR people out there: I have a question

Anonymous
When a person applies to a job online--what happens next (literally)? Is there a large printer that automatically prints out job applications? Or does HR log onto the computer and read the profiles online? And also--does it make sense to apply for a job online and if haven't heard in several weeks to remove application and then reapply to put resume at top of heap? Thanks!

HRIT person, it depends on how the system is setup. A company could have software that can come up with how close of a match the person is ( job profile to resume and not just using a basic keyword algorithm) and the recruiter looks at their job postings and can see how closely the applicant matches and when the applicant applied and click on the ones of interest. Some recruiters, even with soohisticated software, are old school and will look at every resume and prefer to print it out rather than read it on-line. Depending on the company, ( if they handle goverment contracting)bthere can be OFCCP compliance around what searches are done against the resume. I can search for x skills in the requisition but I should not search for candidates that went to my alma mater.

Unless you feel like you the company did not receive your application or you saw something change in the job itself (different description or was on hold and re- opened), I don't see how re-applying to the same job would help. If someone in HR is looking at every resume, they won't suddenly say wow to a resume they by-passed two weeks ago. They may get annoyed that they are reviewing it again.

I think our hr system required the recruiters to review applications in the order received, so your suggestion would backfire and cause you to move to the bottom of the list.
