giving up AWS/flextime

Anonymous
I'm on AWS with my current job (every other Friday off). Considering new job without this benefit. I'm worried I will miss the extra day with my son, for errands, scheduling contractors, etc. What do you thing of giving up AWS? Pros/cons? I know some people have the option for AWS, but don't take it....

I like having the extra hour every day, better than the whole day off every two weeks. Your whole routine can be more relaxed on a permanent basis.

It depends. I could go AWS, but I have all the child are responsibilities, and there's just no way to build the extra hour into the other days to be able to make drop off and pick up. You survive.

I gave it up after having a kid so that she would have shorter days in daycare. I was able to negotiate working from home once a week though, and the lack of commute time means I can still cram in an errand or laundry or something on those days.

I also gave up AWS after DD was born. I need that extra hour every day to relieve the nanny, make dinner, etc. It's just impossible to do AWS. I do miss it though.

I have the option of AWS, but don't take it. I'd rather have the extra hour a day with my family than the whole day every two weeks. I may change later when my kids are older and have a later bedtime.
