Timing new job and pregnancy

Anonymous
I have two kids and realizing that, for a variety of reasons, my job may not be a long term fit. We may want to have a second in about 2 or 3 years. Based on my field, I think it will take some time to find a new job. I got pregnant quickly so I feel like I have decent control over timing number 2, if we decide to have another. (We're on the fence, but I don't want a job change to be the deciding factor or change our time frame.). How would you time the job search? Start looking soon and hopefully be established in new job before maternity leave? Tough it out at current job, have baby in 2 years, put in one more year and then change? Because of my field, it may be hard to look quietly without my current job finding out so, once I start looking, I may need to be ready to go quickly...

Do you have 2 or 3 children?

You need to be employed for at least a year for FMLA. I would factor that in if you know you "get pregnant quickly."

Also, as a note, you really can't assume you will get pregnant quickly again even if it happened quickly the first (and second? not clear from your post) time. I was pregnant on my first and third try with my first two, respectively, and we've now been trying for 9 months for our third with no success.
