| My husband and I were going through our first cycle of IVF and on around day 12 of stimulation, the doctor dropped the bombshell that my body hadn't reacted to stimulation as she had hoped, and I only had 2 follicles large enough to be candidates for fertilization, and at my age (28) she was looking for more like 10. Her professional recommendation was to cut our losses and convert to IUI even though with our diagnosis of MF it was highly unlikely we would conceive. Basically, she wants to save our insurance $ for another cycle and be more aggressive with my meds. It was a total mindf*** and very dissappointing.... We went from 60% odds of conception to 5%. We are trying to stay positive, and we had our IUI a couple of hours ago. Please keep us in your prayers! |
| Try to stay positive. All is not lost. It really only takes one. I got a BFP on an IVF cycle with only one decent day 3 embryo after only having 15 eggs retrieved on half fertilize. My cycle was considered sub-optimal. They called us in for a day 3 cause they didn't think any would survive. Miracles happen. |
OP- what clinic/RE? GL!
|
| SGFC, Dr. Browne... She's been great |

I see Dr. Browne too and she is really really great. I just had an IUI yesterday but am looking at IVF if this doesn't work due to elevated FSH. I don't think I respond as well to the drugs either for the IUI I was on 100 mg clomid and 2 days of 150 of Gonal F and only had 2 follies one was at 22 cm on Day 8 and i began to naturally ovulate so they did the IUI the very next day (yesterday). As they say it only takes ONE!
Good Luck! |
| Don't let the stats mess with your head. You never know. I had 3 failed IVFs (zero good embryos out of the 3, which failed for different reasons) and then on my "off" month we took a break and did IUI, which worked. Good luck to you! |

OP it was probably the wrong protocol. Change in protocol makes ALL the difference. I'm 42 and I went from 2 eggs-2 embryos to 8 eggs-6 embryos (all embryos made it to transfer) by changing to the right protocol.
Don't let them tell you it's you, at your age, it's THEM, they need to try something else. Unfortunately they sometimes have to try a protocol to see how it will work. I recommend getting a consultation at CCRM so you can evaluate the protocol you are next offered at Shady Grove. I did that, pushed my doctor at GW for the protocol CCRM recommended, he agreed after refusing at first, and I had what was a fabulous response for my age. And your doctor was absolutely right to convert to IUI, and save the IVF coverage for another try. I'll bet when you try another protocol you'll do much better. |
Agree. I know it's disappointing, but at 28, your eggs WILL work. It just might take a little longer. And you have insurance! Chin up. Your odds are VERY good. |
| OP here... Week 1 of dreaded 2ww down and no period, but also no BFP on 2 HPT. I wishe I hadn't peed on the damn sticks. I know I should relax and be patient but if I haven't gotten my period I can't help but be hopeful, but I don't want to be devastated if it turns out that I'm not (esp since odds are against me.). Plus, husband is travelling for work and ive been alone all week...going nuts. He's gone next week too, including the day of the beta. I need a hug (and a baby). |

It's definitely all about the right protocol. My last cycle produced 23 eggs with 16 of them mature--I had just turned 40. I see Dr. Browne, too--she played my ovaries like a fiddle!
I know it's disappointing, but on the bright side you have insurance coverage! GL next cycle. (We have MFI, too, so IUIs were pretty futile.) |
hang in there hun |
