Just generally, what do you think the pros and cons of a management job?
And if you have the opportunity, would you try to become a Manager and/or climb up the ladder along the management path? For me, the pros are higher visibility, better pay, bigger responsibility. The cons are bigger and more conflicts with People ( both those above you, under you and your peers). Yet a big concern is the capability to handle mid career crises. I have heard many people say that if you ever have to be laid Off at the later stage of your career (say when you are in your 50's), it's very hard for someone with the middle management Title to land a new job, as your technical skill will not be that Good, and no one just want someone the don't know to be their Leader. For someone who's always been on the first line and Keep updating on technical skills, things would be relatively Better. Is that true? |
